Character: it possess of excellent alkali resistance and electric insulation; and high in thermal expansion coefficient and heat conductivity, as well as better photopermeability. White amorphous powder, odorless, smell-less and nontoxic. It is soluble in acid and ammonium salt solution, difficult to dissolve in water, and insoluble in alcohol. And can be changed into crystal by high-temperature burning above 1000oC, and into dead-burned magnesium oxide or sintered magnesium oxide above 1500oC. When meeting with carbon dioxide in the air, it shall produce basic magnesium carbonate. 
Application: It is widely used as high-temperature refractory material. In the pottery and porcelain manufacturing fileds, it can be used as the raw material for light-permeated porcelain pot and base plate. In the electronic and electric fields, it can be used as filler of magnetic devices and various carriers. When it is used as porcelain base plate, its heat conductivity is 2 times higher than that of aluminium oxide, and its loss of electrolyte only 1/10 of that of aluminium oxide. It also can be used as filler of heat-resistant coatings.
